For example, you can change the weather, turn a gray sky to cloudy blue, change the time of day, add sci-fi moons, eclipses, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Very generally, &#8220;sky replacement&#8221; involves <br \/>\n (a)\u00a0<strong>matching one or more new sky layers to the motion of the original footage<\/strong>, <br \/>\n (b) performing <strong>masking so that the new sky doesn&#8217;t overlap the ground<\/strong>, and <br \/>\n (c)\u00a0<strong>color correction to match everything up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Keying&#8221; and &#8220;Track Matte&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n If you can easily separate the original sky from the ground with <strong>keying tools<\/strong>(e.g., Keylight, Luma Key, Extract, etc)\u00a0then you can use the <strong>silhouette<\/strong> <strong>of either the ground or sky<\/strong> for masking other layers. In After Effects this is called using a\u00a0<strong>Track Matte.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In simpler shots you can use simple mask shape animation to separate the sky from the ground.
