{"id":2257,"date":"2018-02-27T17:35:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T17:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ciraldo.stream\/uwm-vfx1\/?page_id=2257"},"modified":"2018-02-28T00:54:25","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T00:54:25","slug":"ae-basics-pt3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ciraldo.stream\/uwm-vfx1\/topics\/ae-basics-pt3\/","title":{"rendered":"AE basics (pt. 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>&#8220;AE basics (pt. 3)&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><div class=\"content_block\" id=\"custom_post_widget-2262\"><p>Back-and-forth between AE and Premiere, Solid Layers, Adjustment Layers, Parenting<\/p>\n<\/div><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: upper-roman;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Back-and-forth between AE and Premiere<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span>Sometimes we need to use After Effects to manipulate footage that already exists within an edited sequence in Premiere (or Final Cut, etc). And other times we need to use After Effects to generate some footage from scratch that will later be imported into Premiere. The following section describes the basic workflow when going back-and-forth between AE and Premiere. This is sometimes called &#8220;round-tripping.&#8221;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>(If you don&#8217;t need to base your AE work on something already in your Premiere edit (i.e., you are creating a clip from scratch in AE) then you can jump right to <strong>Step 6<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>In Premiere,<\/strong> mark an <strong>IN<\/strong> and an <strong>OUT<\/strong> point in your sequence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Export the clip(s)<\/strong> to a quicktime file using a good <strong>Intermediate Format<\/strong> (eg, ProRes or DNxHD)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Import the exported file into AE<\/strong> and drag it onto the <strong>New Comp button<\/strong> to create a new comp containing the import.<\/li>\n<li>Now, is the file from Premiere being used merely as a reference? (Like for overlay titles maybe?) (This often helps with color correction effects, but not so much with blur or distortion effects.) Imagine an invisible rod connecting the parent to\u00a0the children. Whatever transformation you do to the parent (<strong>scaling, position, rotation<\/strong>, <em>but <strong>not opacity<\/strong><\/em>) the children also do:<\/li>\n<li>Parenting can be achieved with the <strong>Parent dropdown selector<\/strong> or with the <strong>Parent Pickwhip<\/strong>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1844 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/bobbyciraldo.com\/uwm-vfx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Screen-Shot-2017-02-21-at-1.24.32-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"19\" height=\"16\" \/>.
