{"id":1795,"date":"2017-02-07T21:44:19","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T21:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bobbyciraldo.com\/uwm-vfx\/?page_id=1795"},"modified":"2018-03-06T21:51:17","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T21:51:17","slug":"project-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ciraldo.stream\/uwm-vfx1\/projects\/project-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Project 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>PROJECT 2<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Due <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">March 6th,<\/span> at the beginning of class.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this project I want you to create a short, edited work\u00a0that builds\u00a0upon\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ciraldo.stream\/uwm-vfx1\/projects\/project-1\/\">PROJECT #1<\/a>\u00a0(the still project).<\/p>\n<p>Your finished video should be at least <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">80 seconds long<\/span><\/strong>. It&#8217;s okay to import additional imagery (stills or footage), as long as it&#8217;s imagery you&#8217;ve generated yourself, or imagery generated by others that you&#8217;ve manipulated beyond reasonable recognition. <em>You don&#8217;t have to stick to your original theme from\u00a0the still project if you can think of something better to replace it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Your <strong>final edit should be done in Premiere<\/strong> (or Final Cut, etc) using <strong>multiple video clips rendered from After Effects.<\/strong> Your\u00a0edit should feel worked on and cared for; the viewer should appreciate the pacing, the tempo, the way new information is revealed over time.<\/p>\n<p>Successful projects will contain some sense of journey.\u00a0Your goal is to transcend the still image from <strong>Project #1<\/strong> and cause the viewer to experience a larger world, either real or abstract or both.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>EXPECTATIONS:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Technically, you&#8217;ll be employing\u00a0<strong>keyframes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>to animate the various transformation properties<\/strong>\u00a0(such as Rotation, Scale,\u00a0Opacity, Position, etc.)\u00a0 One of your tasks is to really dive into <strong>keyframe animation<\/strong>\u00a0and make it work in your composition. My expectation is that you&#8217;ll reach a point in this\u00a0project where your use of these tools isn&#8217;t random, arbitrary, or mindlessly serendipitous (I love mindful serendipity,) but <strong>purposeful and skillful.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Try to make the edit and animation <strong>feel like you want it to feel.<\/strong>\u00a0You can only do this by carefully managing your edit and keyframes well. Be as ambitious as your imagination allows. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Please don&#8217;t hesitate to email me asking how to do ambitious things you can&#8217;t figure out on your own!<\/span><\/strong> Those are kinda like my favorite emails in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to go longer than the minimum running time of 1 minute 20 seconds. In the end, the work itself should really\u00a0determine its own length. Think about pacing: what&#8217;s really the right speed for this or that passage? And how does one passage relate to the next? <em>Time is one of your mediums here.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before beginning, try to make some structural decisions as far as time passage goes in your edit. How does time unfold? Is it repetitive? Is it circular?\u00a0Is it chronological? Is it modular or compartmentalized? Is it a combination of these? How do you reveal\u00a0imagery and their relationships over time? What passages move more quickly than others? Choices to those questions will have a huge impact\u00a0on how a viewer experiences the work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>At least 1 minute 20 seconds (80 seconds).<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>1280&#215;720 resolution.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Edited in a program like Premiere based on multiple video clips rendered from After Effects<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Compress final video using Handbrake <\/b><\/span>(<a href=\"https:\/\/ciraldo.stream\/uwm-vfx1\/topics\/compressing-a-video\/\">see instructions here<\/a>) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>or Media Encoder or simply After Effects<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PROJECT 2 Due March 6th, at the beginning of class.
